“Going green” is becoming a topic that is being heard more and more lately. With everything that is being talked about with the planet now it is a wise choice to make. You can accomplish this throughout your house.

One place in your house is your home floor. Which of course would mean every room in your house. Bamboo flooring will fit perfect for your design home floor plans. Bamboo is eco-friendly, durable, classy looking, and strong. There are advantages compared to traditional hardwood flooring.

There are many benefits besides bamboo being eco-friendly. Bamboo and red oak are just as strong as each other. It might not look it, but it is sturdy and strong. It works good with almost every kind of environmental condition. Other hardwoods contrast and expand more quickly than bamboo. The appearance it gives the floor looks finished and unique.

It can take impact much greater than other hardwoods and not dent. It is resistant to moisture, so it works great in the bathroom and kitchen, unlike other hardwoods. Compared to other hardwood floors it is a lot less costly. Installing it is simple to do. You can either staple down, nail down, glue down, or floated. The color uniformity and the grain tightness adds to the aesthetic features. Bamboo can be put down on a variety of surfaces. Cleaning it is also simple, just sweep to get the dust, and once a week mop.

One of the biggest trends today that you hear is about people going “green” with their houses. No need for building a house when you can easily remodel it for a fraction of the cost and still live where you are comfortable. You just need to change each room to be eco-friendly. You do not need to rush it, work on one room at a time at your own pace. Your home will not only be healthier for you and the planet but it will look better also.

With the kitchen you want to have energy star appliances. The kitchen alone uses 20-40% of the total energy of the home. Not only will this benefit the environment, you will enjoy having them lower energy bills. The kitchen faucet needs to be changed to changed to one that has an efficient aerator to save water. Light bulbs should be changed in every room to compact fluorescent light bulbs. These will cost a little more but in the long run you will save.

The amount of energy used is less and they last up to ten times longer. You will want to fix any counter tops or cabinetry that is broke. If unrepairable you should replace with materials that is environmentally friendly. You do not need to have experience in home construction to do this. The floors in not only the kitchen but throughout the house should be changed to eco-friendly materials also. This is just a few things that need to be done in your house to get you started. Be sure to research all the stuff you need to do throughout the house.

There are several different ways for painting home walls. Everything today is not just one simple neutral color throughout the house. The choices in colors are endless and you can have them tinted as well for you at the paint shop or home improvement store. I’ll explain a little on different ways to decorate your home walls with paint.

First thing you need to do is decide on a color scheme your going to use. There are several techniques to painting that some will use two different shades. If you use one of these techniques,be sure that for your base color you choose a darker color you would of used.
One of the home wall ideas is sponge or rag painting.

The base color gets applied first, and dries thoroughly. Then all you need to do is dip the rag or the sponge in the lighter color paint and drag or sponge the paint over your base coat to get the effect you desire. The nice thing is. If your not happy with the way any of the sponging looks you can repaint it with the base coat.

Another decorative technique is stamping or stenciling. Same as above you apply the base coat. You can just do a simple design with stamping and stenciling that make it have the effect of wallpaper. You can do many designs with these, like making the wall look like stone or brick. The best part of using the decorative technique, is you can repaint and try again till you get the effect you want.

Make your home living room warm, comfy, and inviting. The living room is where most entertaining of guests occur, so you want them to feel comfortable and welcome during their visit. There are a few tips I can give you to help you make that happen

First thing you want to do is figure out the layout you want. You want to have a focal point and conversational areas. The focal point will be for instance the television, fireplace, or a piece of art.

Your home living room furniture should be arranged around the conversational area and focal point. Take any clutter or things you do not need in that room. This will make the room look bigger. All the furniture should not be pushed right up against the wall. You want the seating close enough so that people can talk comfortably. You want the room to be able to sit at least six people. The seating and conversational areas can be defined with some area rugs. You can use patterned or plain.

Your largest piece of furniture should match the drapes or curtains. This helps design the background. Floors should be slightly darker than walls are. This gives the space a balance that pleasing. Have different types of lighting, for television, reading, or parties. Place live plants in the room. Do not use to many accessories. Now throw pillows to add the finishing touch.

You have probably been hearing the talk about “going green” a lot lately. If you are on board with going eco-friendly, the biggest place to start would be your kitchen. Here are some tips for your home kitchen designs that will help start you on your way to “green”

First we will talk about recycling. Set up a recycling station that is accessible in your kitchen. Be sure to put labels on the receptacles. For instance, glass, plastic, paper and cardboard, steel and aluminum. Be sure to rinse any recyclables before placing them in the receptacles.

Next we’ll discuss compost. Food scraps are in the picture also of “green”. Scrap like, egg shells. Fruit, vegetables, and coffee grounds are somethings to place in your compost container. Your compost container should be small and lidded, make sure to empty often to avoid odors. Animal fats and dairy product should not be used as compost.

The stuff that can’t be used as compost or recycled need to be put in the regular trash. BioBags are biodegradable unlike the regular plastic garbage bags. Another option to use is paper bags that are biodegradable also.

Some people might not think about their cleaning products when making the change to “green”. There are cleaning products that are sold that are eco friendly. You might also want to make your own cleaning products. Vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice are very effective and cheap household products that do wonders with cleaning.

Not only will you conserve energy to cut down on them ugly utility bills, it is safe for the environment. We’ll go over a few home bathroom designs so you can go eco friendly.

The first thing you will want to do is pick a low flush toilet. Compared to other toilets they save on your water by only using one gallon for each flush. There are also duel flush toilets, that you can choose the amount of water to use for disposal of the waste. Compare the different brands to pick out the one you want.

Another way to conserve water is using a shower head that is low flow. Compared to regular shower heads, these use about 1/3 the amount of water. The new models they have now, have more pressure than they used to have. There is hardly no difference between the regular and low flow shower heads anymore. With the new toilet and shower head, your water bill will be lower, and the treasured resource of the planet with be conserved.

Change to full spectrum lighting to help mother nature and your utility bill. Compact Florescent Light (CFL) bulb last longer and use less energy compared to conventional light bulbs. These bulbs can brighten the home along with your mood.

Let her put her ideas in the project as well without letting her take it over. Give her some options to choose from, make a compromise if you and her end up bumping heads on a piece of the project. Between the ages of 9-12, children like to express their self. Be sure to have a space in the room for her to hangout in, either to talk with friends or just sit and read a book. One idea is to put a hanging chair in the corner.

Whether you building a new home or remodeling an existing home, when it comes to windows there are a few things you will want to know about them. There are differences between them. You will want to think about efficiency. Most of the heat that is lost or gained is through windows, doors, next to the attic, which is the number one place.

What are some differences between casement windows and double hung windows? One thing is that double hung windows are not as air tight as casement windows. The wood on double hung windows can also block your view.

You will want to check what the rating is on the window from The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). There should be a label on the window that will help you compare the efficiency between windows. There is the R-Value, that you will want to choose the highest rating in this and lowest infiltration loss. The U-Factor measures how much heat will escape from the window. You will want to pick the lowest U-Factor.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) tells you how much solar heat is prevented from getting in. You want a low number on these as well. Visible Transmittance (VT) measures the amount of light that can pass through the window. Ultra violet protection (UV) shows how much sunlight can pass through the window that will possibly damage or fade furnishings over a period of time.

You will also want to be sure to pick window covers that will help keep your home efficient also.
